New Exhibit
Richmond-Miles Museum
In observance of Black History Month a new exhibit is on display at the museum for the month of February. This exhibit highlights the accomplishments of several members of the Caswell County community at different periods of history.
The exhibit includes Thomas Day, referred to as “probably the most famous craftsman to call Caswell County home.” After moving to Milton NC he became an accomplished furniture and cabinet maker whose works are still coveted today. His history has been well documented as his works and life have been displayed at numerous museums, historical sites and written about in several books. Also on display is Henrietta Phelps Jeffries, a midwife who lived in Milton that was put on trial in 1911 for unlicensed medical practices. Her trial became a national event where she represented herself and was acquitted by the judge. She continued her work for years until her death in 1926. On display is also Adolphus Gwynn, a Caswell County native and graduate of West Point. Adolphus is a Bronze Star recipient and combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm. The Badgett sisters, from Yanceyville were a gospel/folk musical group who performed the world over and received the 1990 NC Heritage Award for their work. There are other items and persons on display as part of this exhibit.
The Caswell County Historical Association and Richmond-Miles Museum welcome visitors to see this and other exhibits during operating hours which are currently Wednesdays from 1-4 pm.
