Karen Oestreicher

Director of Genealogy, Caswell County Historical Association

Karen Oestreicher has been connected to the Caswell County Historical Association (CCHA) since moving to Caswell County in 2004. She served as President for 9 years. She then accepted the role as Director of Genealogy to devote more time to research for her family, CCHA, and teaching others how to do genealogical research.

She has logged over 1000 hours of research for CCHA, prepared the curriculum for CCHA’s Genealogy 101 (an 8-week course given to local residents interested in doing family research), and provides guidance to CCHA members and visitors in their research endeavors. To help with her 30 year quest to trace her own family history she has attended LDS Seminars and has spent many days delving through historical records in Maysville, KY; Danville, VA; Raleigh, NC; and, of course, Yanceyville, NC.

Recognized for her expertise, she spearheaded History United’s Finding Your Roots events in Yanceyville, NC. She believes understanding your family history is vital in understanding who you are, and accurate documentation is essential to doing the research correctly.
