Opening Day
April 1 was opening day for Major League Baseball and the Richmond-Miles Museum has a new exhibit this month to showcase baseball in Caswell County. Baseball in the U.S. is known as “Americas Pastime” with the first recorded contest taking place in 1846. Baseball has a storied past continuing to the present where it has not only entertained but provided comfort during war years and the current Covid pandemic.
The exhibit in the current events room displays the Carl Willis collection, the Neal Watlington collection as well as yearbook photos of several school teams including Bartlett Yancey High School. There are photos of Legion Teams from the area and a brief history of baseball as written by the Baseball Hall of Fame. While at the museum visitors can also view other sports related exhibits in addition to the various historical artifacts on permanent display.
